Roundup 52: Favorite Dog Articles, Deals & Videos of the Week
You’d think I’d wise up after awhile when Laika starts wandering around on our walks. And you’d really think I’d avoid getting anywhere near the edge of the road when it’s muddy.
Oh she’s just sniffing around, I’m sure she’s just going to pee and move on…Nope, she just dove head first right into the mud again.
Oh well, one minor inconvenience for me equals fun for her. Mud followed by the hose. Who says dog walks have to be boring?
From the benefits of PTSD service dogs to why you might want to think twice before giving your dog a hug, here’s my favorite articles of the week. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
Favorite Dog Articles of the Week
Excitable You
Great look at a faulted study that surveyed individuals about their ‘excitable’ dog. Highlights the need to understand the situations that lead up to said behaviors and find solutions, rather than just blaming the dog because they’re ‘excitable.’
Data Shows Dogs Don’t Like Hugs
I think we owe it to our dogs to pay more attention to the cues they use to show discomfort. We may love dogs, but from the videos I see being shared every day I think it’s clear that many of us don’t know as much about dog behavior as we think we do.
Does a Good Dog Make a Bad Blog?
I don’t know the answer to this. I tried, I really did, but it’s not a simple question. Rather than coming up with a decent answer I ended up with even more questions about why we read the things we do. Why do you read the dog blogs you do?
This Company Wants to Use Dog DNA to Help Cure Cancer
Profile of a new startup that sells dog DNA tests ( like Wisdom Panel ). It in addition to offering consumers genetic information about their own dogs, they hope to create a data set of genetic information that can be used for further research into canine health & behavior.
Marine is on a Mission to Provide Veterans Suffering PTSD With Service Dogs
Currently PTSD Service dogs are not covered by the VA due to of a lack of clinical evidence regarding their effectiveness. I certainly hope one day we’re able to provide better treatment for those suffering from PTSD, and providing service dogs would be a great start.

Have you ever tried working out with a young dog around?

I do the same thing with Delilah, only she’s not usually diving into mud, she’s eating something she shouldn’t!
Thanks for the round up list.
